Fresh Fest 26

Fresh Fest is a free, family-friendly arts, music, food, wellness, and urban-agriculture festival held at Rid-All Farm & Otter Park in Cleveland’s Kinsman neighborhood. It’s presented by Environmental Health Watch, Rid-All Green Partnership, and Brittany’s Record Shop. The idea is to combine Cleveland culture and music with community, healthy living, local food, art, and urban farming.

The festival presented RAKIM as this years headliner. Fresh Fest’s dedicated 2026 lineup page gives Rakim a substantial feature explaining his importance to hip-hop: his influence on lyrical style and flow, his work with Eric B., Paid in Full, Follow the Leader, The 18th Letter, and his reputation as one of hip-hop’s great MCs.

What makes Rakim especially important is how he changed rapping itself. Before him, a lot of popular MCing relied on relatively straightforward rhyme patterns and energetic delivery. Rakim brought much more intricate internal rhymes, multisyllabic patterns, metaphors and jazz-like rhythmic phrasing, while delivering everything in a calm, controlled voice. That approach became a blueprint for generations of lyricists.
